Before certain vehicles can be certified for entry into service under Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Standards Compliance 2002, Waka Kotahi must have received certain data about the carbon dioxide emissions of the vehicle.
Also, under the Land Transport (Clean Vehicle Discount Scheme) Charges Regulations 2022, a person may have to pay a charge for registering a vehicle based on its measured carbon dioxide emissions.
This Rule provides the detailed rules for how that data is identified, produced and supplied.
The stated objective of this Rule is to specify—
(a) data about the carbon dioxide emissions, fuel consumption, and efficiency that must be supplied before a vehicle may be certified for entry into service in New Zealand; and
(b) the requirements for identifying, producing and supplying the data; and
(c) the carbon dioxide emissions of a vehicle for the purposes of Part 13 of the Act and the Land Transport (Clean Vehicle Discount Scheme) Charges Regulations 2022.
