Bus lighting assessment and improvement options

Published: | Category: Guidance for specialists | Audiences: Heavy vehicle operators, Road controlling authorities, Vehicle inspectors & inspecting organisations

This guidance outlines a standardised headlamp lighting performance assessment method, called the reference line method (RLM).

The RLM is used to find out if lighting performance is effective or if lighting improvement is required. All buses fitted with bike racks will need to apply for an exemption from the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Lighting 2004.

This guidance provides information on how to do this and the RLM will determine the details of the exemption.
