0:01:09 Native plants in Hairini Most of the plants are sourced from Te Akakura Native Nursery on Matakana Island, to preserve the whakapapa of local species and create employment opportunities.
0:01:18 Jason Murray [Jason Murray] The native nursery was established initially as a two-pronged attack, which was to create employment opportunities on the backend of the downturn in the forestry, mill industry on the island.
0:01:31   It also helps inspire our younger ones to look after the land, which is really important for our hapū and iwi over here, because if we don’t look after our land and our moana, then what have we got? So that’s a really important thing for us.
