Waikato Expressway: Tamahere – Cambridge section construction approval

Purpose

To seek the Board’s approval to invest in the detailed design and construction of the Tamahere-Cambridge Section project of the Waikato Expressway Road of National Significance (RoNS) in the Waikato region.

Resolutions

The Board approves $259 million in NLTP funding for the detailed design and construction associated with the Tamahere-Cambridge Section of the NZTA’s (SH1) Waikato Expressway Road of National Significance.

Reason for the decision

The assessment profile for the Waikato Expressway RoNS remains at High strategic fit, High effectiveness and Low economic efficiency.

The project makes a nationally significant contribution to SH1, which is a key freight and tourist route, by improving journey time reliability, more efficient freight supply chains and a safer environment for road users.

We confirm that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20 (5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account.
