Purpose

To seek approval to fund and construct the Mackay's to Peka Peka section of the Kapiti Expressway, which forms part of the Wellington Northern Corridor Road of National Significance (RoNS).

Resolutions

The NZ Transport Agency Board approves the construction of the MacKays to Peka Peka section of the Wellington Northern Corridor RoNS programme at a total cost not exceeding $696.0 million from N, C and R funds; approval of the actual cost of the project is delegated to the Chief Executive of the NZ Transport Agency who will operate below the upper limit approved by the Board.

Reason for the decision

The assessment profile for this activity has been determined as being of High strategic fit, High effectiveness and Low economic efficiency.

The project will contribute to economic development and safety by addressing congestion, improving journey time reliability on a key freight route, and creating a safer operating environment for all transport modes.

We confirm that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20 (5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account.
