Road user charges (RUC)

If you have a RUC vehicle, you must pre-pay for the distance you're going to travel. You must buy a new licence before you've driven all the kilometres on your current licence.

If you don't buy your RUC in advance, we'll send you an invoice for your outstanding RUC. You'll need to pay the invoice before the due date to avoid a penalty.

If you've lost your RUC label or it hasn't arrived in the post, you can order a new one. If your original transaction was within the last 30 days, the new label will be free.

You can apply to change your RUC vehicle type if your vehicle will be the towing vehicle in a combination with 8 or 9 axles, or is the leading vehicle in a B-train combination.

Use this form if you're applying to change your RUC vehicle to an H vehicle type. You must have a permit issued under the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass.
