'Real time' visual updates on the Atiamuri Bridge Replacement project's construction progress are now available online. Camera providers, EarthCam, automatically capture high resolution images from the construction site every half hour.
The webcam feature is part of the further development of the project’s NZTA webpages, which now include a project overview, latest news and media releases, photos and maps. A project update newsletters will also be added regularly over the coming months.
Construction on the $24m project got underway in November 2011, to construct a new bridge about 75 metres upstream of the current bridge on State Highway 1 (SH1), South Waikato between Taupo and Tokoroa.
Projects Management Service Manager, Bryce Carter, says the webcam feature means the wider project team, other NZTA staff and people visiting our public website can see ‘live’ progress on the project in close to real time.
“The webcam is also a valuable tool in helping us to manage the project. Once the project is completed, timelapse videos will be created from the images captured along the way, which will tell a visual story about how construction unfolded over time.”
Mr Carter says the project is a priority for the NZTA as SH1 is a significant freight route and the new bridge will ensure route security and improve safety, reliability and access along this section of SH1. “This will also bring regional and national benefits while stimulating economic growth in this area and New Zealand-wide.”
“It’s all part of the NZTA's commitment to giving more open and up to date access to information about its projects, so everyone who is interested can see what we do and how we do it,” says Mr Carter.
