Waka Kotahi assisting Police crash investigation

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has attended the scene of this morning’s multiple fatality crash on State Highway 1 south of Picton, and will continue to assist the Police Serious Crash Unit leading the investigation in to the crash.

Waka Kotahi Director of Land Transport Kane Patena says Waka Kotahi’s thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic event.

“This crash will have a devastating impact on the families and throughout the wider communities of all those who have died. Our deepest sympathies are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

Further information on the crash will be provided by Police.

Waka Kotahi is advising travellers that SH1 will remain closed for some time. Detours are in place on SH6 (Nelson to Blenheim), and for those travelling north via Queen Charlotte Drive from Havelock to Picton. The Queen Charlotte Drive detour is suitable for light vehicles only. Motorists should allow for 60 to 90 minutes of additional travel time while the detours remain in place.
