The NZ Transport Agency is holding three public information days next week to present the recommended route and connection options for the Hamilton Section of the Waikato Expressway, Road of National Significance.
NZTA Waikato Expressway Principal Project Manager Richard Young says the Hamilton Section is a key piece of infrastructure for Hamilton City which will support and stimulate economic growth and development.
Three public information days are planned for the coming week. Each session will be run between 2pm and 7pm and the same information will be available at all venues.
Mr Young says the existing designation for the Hamilton Section was notified in the Hamilton City and Waikato District Plans in 2005.
Since then the City has seen the development of a number of road projects, including the Ring Road, and significant changes to the structure plans for the Rototuna, Ruakura and Tamahere areas.
Over the last two years the NZTA’s project team have carried out detailed assessments of planning, traffic flows, the connections for Hamilton’s road network, environmental and cultural issues.
The information days will explain where changes to the designation have been made, give people the chance to ask questions and provide feedback and gain understanding of the process going forward.
“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to attend these information days,” Mr Young says.
NZTA Waikato Bay of Plenty Regional Director Harry Wilson says the Hamilton Section of the Waikato Expressway is a section which will deliver growth and economic development to Hamilton’s door.
“It is absolutely essential the Hamilton Section is developed with this future growth in mind. The effective, safe and efficient movement of people and freight is key to unlocking the economic potential of this region.”
