Taranaki road users urged to prepare for heavy rain, strong winds

|

If you’re driving through Taranaki over the next 24 hours, please drive to the conditions and be prepared for strong winds and heavy rain.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is urging people to avoid unnecessary travel if they can, but to be alert to the risks of fallen trees, high winds and other debris if they are on the road.

Metservice has issued a strong wind warning, from 6pm today to 6pm tomorrow for Taranaki, and a heavy rain warning for Mount Taranaki between 7pm and midday tomorrow.

“The main concern for us right now is for high sided vehicles travelling throughout the region,” says Taranaki’s System Manager Rob Service.

“There’s a strong wind warning in place, and road users, especially if you’re in a high-sided vehicle, need to be extremely careful and drive to the conditions.

Our priority is always the safety of all road users and our contractors.

“Before you hit the road, please make sure you’re checking for the very latest weather conditions with MetService, and the latest road closures via the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner.”
