Stretch of Waitara Rd to close temporarily as roundabout preparation continues

|

A small stretch of Waitara Road will be closed from 15 September to progress safety improvement work on State Highway 3 in Taranaki.

Work has begun to prepare the SH3 intersection with Waitara Road for a new roundabout.

The roundabout will be the second in the Te Ara Tūtohu: State Highway 3 (SH3) Waitara to Bell Block safety improvements project currently underway.

The first roundabout, at Princess Street, has already opened.

Work currently underway at Waitara Road includes stormwater improvements, the relocation of underground services, and pavement works.

Crews have already started this work on Tate Road and Raleigh Street and are now ready to start work on Waitara Road.

From the evening of Sunday 15 September until the end of November, a small section of Waitara Road off SH3 will be closed to allow for this work to take place.

During the closure a detour will be in place along Richmond Road. The detour will add an extra 5 minutes to journeys.

SH3 through the intersection will remain open to traffic with a 50km/h temporary speed limit in place.

Access to businesses in the closure area will be maintained.
