Strengthening and safety improvements for SH3 north of Bulls

|

A four-week programme of major work to strengthen and improve the safety of State Highway 3 north of Bulls will get underway from Monday 14 November.

Waka Kotahi is advising motorists to plan for delays of up to ten minutes while contractors are on site between 6am–6pm from Monday 14 November to Monday 12 December.

During this time, a section of SH3 near the intersection with Viles Road will be reduced to a single lane under Stop/Go traffic management. People are asked to follow traffic management instructions and adhere to speed restrictions to ensure the safety of road workers and road users.

The work being undertaken will rebuild strength into this section of busy road. There are various phases to the work, including hoeing the existing pavement, adding additional base course gravel, grade compacting and sealing with a first coat.

Contractors will also be undertaking shoulder rehabilitation and installing a widened centreline to improve safety by providing greater separation for opposing traffic, and reducing the likelihood of head-on crashes in the area.

Contractors will return to the site in approximately 12 months to add a second coat of seal. This is a standard pavement construction technique used across New Zealand.

Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience while we undertake this important work.
