Stop/Go on State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill today for urgent drainage work

|

UPDATE 2:20 pm: Following site inspections today, a decision has been made to put a 24/7 northbound lane closure at the underslip site.

The lane closure is needed to protect the road from further damage and ensure public safety. Vehicles must be kept away from the edge of the road and the underslip area.

This means there will be stop/go traffic management at the site 24/7 until repairs are completed. The current estimate is that this will take around four to six weeks.

Drivers can expect short delays at the underslip site until the road is restored to two lanes and should allow extra travel time when using State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank the public for their patience and understanding as road crews complete these critical repairs.

Update 9:10am

Drivers travelling between Wellington and Wairarapa can expect short delays on the Remutaka Hill later today as contractors undertake urgent drainage work on the route.

With rain forecast this weekend, contractors will install preventative drainage measures at an under-slip site and culvert, located on the Wairarapa side of Remutaka Hill, approximately five minutes’ drive from Featherston.

This work is essential and intended to protect the road from potential wet weather damage.

It will be carried out in the northbound lane under stop/go traffic management.

The work will be carried out between midday and three pm today – outside of peak commuting times. However, drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes. Please allow extra time for your journeys.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while this urgent work is carried out today.
