A stretch of State Highway 45, will be under stop/go traffic management from Tuesday (11 March) while crews install new traffic islands.
The work will take place at night from 7pm to 6am between Barrett Road and Belair Avenue. The work is expected to be complete on Sunday 29 March.
During this period, crews will be installing traffic islands outside Spotswood Primary School and Woolworths, and at the intersections of Pioneer Road, Ngamotu Road and Crownhill Street.
The traffic islands will prevent left-turning traffic from turning quickly into the cycle lane, giving drivers more time to spot oncoming cyclists.
There will still be room for 2 vehicles to sit side-by-side at the intersections of Pioneer Road and Ngamotu Road once the traffic islands are in place .
Access to some side roads will be unavailable during the works. Alternative routes will be available - please follow onsite directions.
Outside of the work hours, all roads will be open to traffic, however there will be temporary speed restrictions in place.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi s reminding all road users to drive to the conditions and follow all temporary signage for the safety of road users and crews.
The work is weather dependent. It is being delivered in partnership with New Plymouth District Council.
