21 July 2022, 7.17pm update

State Highway 25 east of Coromandel Town will reopen after 8pm to one lane tonight under a temporary speed limit past the slip site.

Waka Kotahi contractors have been onsite today clearing the large slip and dislodging remaining loose rocks in the hillside with high pressure water.

They will be returning tomorrow to complete the removal of material and will reopen both lanes once it’s safe to do so.

There is no detour around the slip so motorists are advised to delay their travel, or avoid the area if possible.

The slip site is currently being assessed as to whether it is still active. If it is not active, the road will be expected to reopen by the end of today. If the slip is still moving, further assessment will be required before an opening date can be provided.
