A slip has closed State Highway 2, west of Wairoa, between Putorino and Kotemaori.

Contractors are on-site, and a geotechnical evaluation of the slip site will be done.
No local road detours are available, and the route is closed to all traffic until further notice. Drivers should delay their travel and avoid the area.
The route can only be reopened once it is safe to do so. At this stage, this section of State Highway 2 will likely remain closed for the rest of today.
