Stabilising Waiau Stream bank on SH45

|

Work to repair damage to the stream banks near the Waiau Stream bridge south of Opunake on State Highway 45 is scheduled kicked off earlier this week.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors are installing 1,600 tonnes of rock along the stream banks to repair damage caused by the severe weather events in February. This rock stabilisation will help protect the stream bank from future erosion.

The work started on Tuesday 26 April and is expected to take 3-4 weeks to complete, subject to weather and any impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

While this work will take place off road, Waka Kotahi reminds people travelling past this area to stay alert and keep their eyes on the road, and not the excavators under the bridge, to help keep everyone safe.
