The NZ Transport Agency is advising that the Mōhaka Bridge on State Highway 5 will be undergoing standard repairs and maintenance from Monday 9 to Thursday 12 September, requiring a lowered speed limit for the duration of the work.
Both lanes will remain open, but the speed will be lowered to 30 kilometres per hours while the repairs and maintenance work is underway.
“Our team will be working under the bridge to upgrade some of the bolts and the lower speed limit will help ensure that the bridge doesn’t vibrate too much so that the work can be completed safely and efficiently,” Regional Transport Systems Manager Oliver Postings says.
These maintenance works on the bridge follow its annual maintenance inspections earlier in the year.
Over the last six months, the Transport Agency has undertaken maintenance work on three other bridges on State Highway 5 including Munns Bridge and Waipunga No.2 and 3.
There has also been work to widen a section of State Highway 5 north of Hill Culvert, and to install rumble strips and structural line marking between the State Highway 2 intersection in Esk Valley and Te Pōhue.
Over the spring and summer months, which is a busy time for road repairs, drivers can expect to see joint repairs on Mōhaka Bridge and maintenance work on several other sites along State Highway 5.
