A section of State Highway 3 between Stewart Road and Awahuri Feilding Road will be closed between 7am – 12 noon this Sunday (16 October), Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises.
Work to rebuild part of the road has been underway since 3 October*. Sunday’s road closure will allow contractors to seal the road while the weather is fine before forecast rain arrives next week.
*22 September media release: SH3 Awahuri closure for roadworks next month
This means the road will be open earlier than planned, rather than being delayed by the weather.
A detour will remain in place while the road is closed to allow contractors to undertake the work. Traffic travelling south toward Palmerston North will be diverted down Stewart Road to Awahuri Feilding Road, with northbound traffic taking the same route, in reverse.
This work is being carried out as part of the Manawatū-Whanganui summer maintenance programme.
People are asked to follow traffic management instructions and adhere to speed restrictions to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to minimise the risk of damage to both vehicles and any new seal.
Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience while we undertake this important maintenance work
