State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa will remain open overnight.
The stretch of road was opened to one lane at 6.30 this morning following a geotechnical assessment at first light.
Sunday’s slip site has been barricaded; and there is traffic management in place, including traffic lights, and a speed restriction.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Hawke’s Bay / Tairāwhiti System Manager Martin Colditz says the traffic flow during today has been steady.
“We are in a position to keep the single lane open overnight, at the reduced speed. The safety of everyone using the road and our crews onsite is of paramount importance.
“Understandably a lot of people have been keen to get through as quickly as possible and we’re continuing to remind people to drive to the conditions, expect delays and be respectful of the crews onsite who have been onsite.”
