Serious crash on the Lewis Pass/SH7 near Mouse Pt – road could be closed all morning

Drivers are advised to delay their journeys from Waipara or the West Coast/ Nelson through the Lewis Pass this morning following a serious crash south of the turnoff to Hanmer Springs. The Police Serious Crash Unit is attending.


Stop Press: As of 2.55 pm Friday, this highway has reopened with a temporary 50 km/ hour speed limit. People should expect delays as queues abate.


There is no detour route around that part of SH7. The crash occurred around 8.30 am.

  • Electronic signs are in place warning of the road closure at Springs Junction, north of Culverden and SH1 south of the Waipara turnoff.
