The crash scene has been cleared and police investigations are complete. State Highway 2, Remutaka Hill, has now reopened.
Travel delays can be expected until queued traffic clears.
Waka Kotahi wants to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation during today’s closure.
Update 8:15 am:
State Highway 2, Remutaka Hill will remain closed while Police investigate the crash scene. This closure is expected to continue until late this morning.
This means there will be significant delays for people travelling between Wellington and Wairarapa. Drivers should either delay their travel or use an alternative route.
However, the alternative route via Saddle Road - Woodville to Ashurst – has a much longer travel time.

State Highway 2 is currently closed between Kaitoke and Featherston following a serious crash on Remutaka Hill this morning.
The incident was notified at around 6.30 this morning.
The crash has blocked both lanes. Emergency services and contractors are at the scene.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and to expect delays.
At this stage there is no estimated time for the road to be reopened. Road users can check the highway’s status on the Waka Kotahi website
