Safety improvements to get underway for Ōhinewai

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises road users will see traffic management along a seven-kilometre section of State Highway 1 at Ōhinewai from Monday (28 June) for approximately six weeks while important safety improvements are undertaken.

To make this section of SH1 safer, we’re installing roadside barriers to prevent people from running off the road and hitting trees, poles or deep ditches. Several roadside lights will also be repositioned to provide room for the new barriers to be installed. Before the barriers can be installed, our contractors will need to locate underground services.

From next week, site investigations will get underway and semi-static traffic management will be in place. This means the work will be done in short sections, using a number of vehicles to manage traffic and protect the workers on the ground. Once one section is complete, the team will move on to the next relatively quickly.

This work will be done during daytime working hours. Traffic management will only be in place when work is being undertaken.

Motorists will see signs, cones, and multiple mobile work vehicles operating, and are asked to take care while driving through the site and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this important safety work.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
