Road work disruptions on SH 1 south of Lookout Point

|

Road users can expect some minor disruptions from tomorrow, as work starts to improve a 600 metre section of the northbound lane of SH1, between the Green Island on-ramp and the top of Lookout Point in Dunedin.

The job starts on Friday 23 January at 10am and provided there aren’t any weather interruptions, should be completed by 6pm on Sunday 25 January. However, it will mean only the right uphill traffic lane will be available to road users during this time.

Throughout this work motorists can expect slow traffic flows due to speed restrictions that will be in place for 3 days. Traffic Control will be in place on the Green Island on ramp while paving construction is being carried out.

The work involves milling out and replacing the current worn road surface. The road surface in this area, has deteriorated through normal wear and tear.

Road side message boards placed before the Kaikorai Valley off ramp suggest motorists consider detouring to the city via Kaikorai Valley Rd. The estimated cost for this project is $73,000 and will be carried out by the Downer NZ Dunedin paving crew. Benefits of this work include reduce maintenance costs and a smoother riding road surface.
