Update: Resurfacing works planned - State Highway 2 Hutt Valley

|

Forecast heavy rain has postponed planned resurfacing tonight on State Highway 2 between Petone and the Dowse Interchange.

Update 3 September 2:34pm

As a result, the northbound lanes on this section of SH2 will remain OPEN overnight.

Crews will be back on this stretch of SH2 on Wednesday night (4 September). During this work, the northbound lanes will be closed between 10 pm and 4.30 am  - reopening in time for early morning commuter traffic.

State Highway 2 between Dowse Interchange and Melling Link northbound closure is now scheduled for Sunday night (8 September).

All works and closures are weather permitting. Further updates will be provided.

Update 30 August 11:00 am

There has been a minor change to the scheduling for these works.

Work will not take place on Thursday night on State Highway 2 - Dowse Interchange to Melling Link as was originally scheduled.

29 August

The first phase of five weeks of resurfacing work on State Highway 2 through the Hutt Valley will start this weekend.

The work is essential maintenance and will improve the highway’s surface – improving its skid resistance and making it safer to drive on.

From Sunday, 1 September, until early October, work crews will resurface various sections of the highway’s northbound lanes from Korokoro to Totara Park. The work is weather-dependent and may be delayed if wet weather occurs.

The first section of work, between the Petone offramp and the Dowse Interchange, is due to begin this Sunday (1 September).

Road crews will resurface areas of the highway’s northbound lanes Sunday to Tuesday nights, between 10 pm and 4:30 am.

The highway will be closed to northbound traffic between the Petone offramp and the Dowse Interchange.

Then, on Wednesday and Thursday nights (4 and 5 September), weather permitting, the highway will be closed to northbound traffic between Dowse Interchange and Melling Link between 10 pm and 4.30 am.

Local road detours will be available via Hutt Road.

Drivers should expect traffic delays and should allow extra travel time while crews set up traffic management at work sites ahead of the closures.

Residents in the western hills will need to use sign-posted detours to access the highway when night works are underway in their area. Please plan your travel accordingly.

With night closures also planned for next week for State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill, drivers who have booked escorted hill crossings must allow extra time to reach the Remutaka Hill closure point to ensure they make their crossing appointments on time.

Further resurfacing work is planned along the State Highway 2 corridor during October and September. More updates will be provided as the work progresses.
