NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is asking people to steer clear of State Highway 15 near Awarua, due to a fire.
While the road remains open, people are asked to avoid the area around Tokawhero Road if possible.
Through traffic is advised to delay their journeys or use alternate routes, such as State Highway 1. There are significant traffic delays in the area.
Emergency services are in attendance and traffic management is en-route.
