Work to improve safety along State Highway 2 (SH2) at the Pahoia Road and Esdaile Road intersections got underway late October and it's on track to be completed in January 2013.
The NZTA’s Bay of Plenty state highways manager, Brett Gliddon says the work involves widening SH2 and installing turning bays for vehicles turning off the state highway on to either Pahoia Road or Esdaile Road which will make it more safe and easy for vehicles to turn in and out of this intersection.
“Although this safety project is concentrated into a relatively short timeframe we are working hard to minimise any inconvenience to road users. So far we have completed power, telecom, watermain and street lighting works, and this week will start on the road pavement. After the Christmas shutdown period the team will return early 2013 to reseal the road and complete the job.”
Mr Gliddon says this project will improve safety as part of the agency’s Safer Journeys strategy for state highway traffic and local residents, and especially for parents dropping off and picking up their children from Pahoia School.
