Overnight closures planned for Waitangi Bridge guardrail repairs

|

SH51 at Waitangi Bridge will be closed overnight next Monday and Thursday nights as the rebuild following Cyclone Gabrielle continues.

Repair work is needed on safety guardrails damaged in the cyclone.

A further bridge inspection will also be carried out during this time.

The bridge will be closed from 6.30pm Monday 27 March and will reopen 5am on Tuesday 28 March. The bridge will also be closed during the same times from Thursday night (30 March) through to Friday morning.

“We realise this is a crucial piece of our state highway network and while we hope an overnight closure will minimise disruption, we appreciate it will still inconvenience some road users. This work will continue to improve the safety and resilience of our network,” says Waka Kotahi Central North Island Regional Manager of Maintenance and Operations, Jaclyn Hankin.

“We wish to thank the Hawke’s Bay public for their understanding while this work takes place.”
