One lane open on SH35 near Whitianga Bay but caution still needed

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that State Highway 35 near Whitianga Bay in eastern Bay of Plenty is now open to one lane, but people should continue to exercise caution along the whole Ōpōtiki to Gisborne route.

The Whitianga Bay slip, which is about 40 kilometres from Ōpōtiki, occurred Saturday morning. People may see other parts of State Highway 35 also down to one lane.

NZTA Bay of Plenty Transport System Manager, Rob Campbell says the Whitianga Bay site will be monitored overnight.

“People should continue to check the website and social media or call us on 0800 4 HIGHWAYS before travelling through this area to check that the road is still open,” Mr Campbell says.

The NZ Transport Agency thanks road users for their understanding and patience and asks them to remain cautious in this area.
