The project to resurface State Highway 1C, the Te Rapa section of the Waikato Expressway, is almost complete with work wrapping up on the four-laned stetch of the road over the next 10 days.
From Sunday night the southbound lanes of SH1C at Te Rapa will be closed for up to five days, reopening each morning between 5am and 9am to allow peak hour traffic through. The northbound lanes will not be affected. While the road is closed traffic can either exit SH1C at the Horotiu Interchange and use Te Rapa Road and Wairere Drive or take the Koura Drive offramp, Onion Road, Ruffell Road and Arthur Porter Drive to rejoin Mangaharakeke Drive.
The southbound ramps at Koura Drive have been reopened, with traffic no longer required to switch between different sides of the expressway.
Over the next few days crews will resurface the section of SH1C near the rail bridge where traffic had been diverted from one side of the road to the other, including reinstating the wire rope barrier. This will be done with single lane closures and traffic reduced to 50 kph.
Next week, some line marking with long-life paint will take place in the northbound lanes. Once again, this will be done under lane closure.
The final piece of work will begin overnight on Sunday 8 September (weather dependent), with the southbound lanes of SH1C closed from Koura Drive through to Wintec to allow for resurfacing of the single-laned section near Wairere Drive.
