The next stage of the NZ Transport Agency's upgrade of State Highway 1 in the Northland town of Moerewa will get underway from next Monday (15 April).
The NZTA’s contractor, Fulton Hogan, will lay a new asphalt surface for the highway and then construct pedestrian crossing traffic islands.
To minimise any disruption to the town’s businesses, preparing the highway and laying its new surface will be completed at night. This work should be finished on Thursday (18 April), weather permitting.
The work marks the end of this phase of the project, which has also included a new lay-by and improvements to footpaths and drainage. The Far North District Council has worked with the NZTA on some stages of the project.
The NZTA and Fulton Hogan both thank the people of Moerewa for their patience over the past few weeks.
“The project is going well and the support we are getting from the community is contributing to its success,” says the NZTA’s Regional Assets Manager, Steve Mutton.
There are plans for further upgrades in 2014.
