NZTA to begin work on more durable new road surface atWaiwhakaiho

|

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that SH3 at Waiwhakaiho will have a new permanent road surface within a few days.

State Highways Manager David McGonigal says road resurfacing work planned between Stub Road and Smart Road will provide a permanent, more durable surface for this busy section of highway.

“We appreciate that problems with the road surface have caused an ongoing headache for motorists, and we expect this will provide a permanent solution and make journeys much easier.”

Mr McGonigal said the NZTA had worked with its contractors to identify a more durable asphaltic concrete mix for the highway road surface.

“This new surface will be in place within a few days and we expect it to be a much more hard-wearing, resilient road surface that will better withstand the day to day punishment this busy section of highway faces from heavy traffic and rain.”

Mr McGonigal says the NZTA are grateful to motorists for their patience while the NZTA developed a solution to the road surface problems.

Mr McGonigal says the work is scheduled to begin on Sunday night and is expected to be finished within the next week, weather permitting. Roadworks will be carried out overnight between 7pm and 6am to minimise disruption to motorists.

This work is weather dependant so drivers should watch for warning signs and drive to the conditions – speed restrictions will be in place.

This project is being undertaken on the NZTA’s behalf by Downer EDI Works.
