NZTA open to hear public's views on Maunganui/Girvenintersection

|

As part of its investigation into ways to improve the safety and efficiency of the State Highway 2 intersection at Maunganui and Girven Roads, the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is holding an open day for the public to air their views.

The open day will be held at the Hillier Centre, 31 Gloucester Rd, Mount Maunganui on Tuesday 22 March, from 4-7pm.

Rod James, the NZTA's Bay of Plenty State Highway Manager, says the open day is the first opportunity for the agency to discuss  potential intersection improvements with the public.

“We’re asking people to tell us about any issues or difficulties they experience at the intersection that might affect the design of any improvements,” says Mr James.

“So far, we know the intersection suffers severe congestion, a high crash rate and increasing conflict between local and through traffic, especially heavy commercial vehicles. We’d like to hear how and when people use the intersection and what their experiences are like.

Following this open day, the NZTA will review information received, carry out technical surveys and develop potential options. Another open day will be held later in the year where people will have an opportunity to review and comment on proposed options.

Once the NZTA has identified the preferred solution and determined its estimated cost, the project will be prioritised for design and construction funding through the Regional Land Transport Programme.
