The completion date for a new roundabout for Glenda Drive on State Highway 6 at Frankton near Queenstown, has been pushed out to early spring, so new and essential water mains, stormwater and waste water drains can be installed in the area.
However, the entire project will still be finished on schedule in October.
Once completed, this roundabout, part of a joint $7.5million contract involving Queenstown Lakes District Council and the Transport Agency; with developers also sharing some of the costs, will connect with the future Eastern Access Road linking Queenstown Airport, Remarkables Park and other developments. The new roundabout will also provide safer access to Glenda Drive.
Transport Agency Project Manager Simon Underwood says access to Glenda Drive will remain via a temporary roundabout until the new roundabout and linking roads are finished. Other construction work at the site will continue over winter.
“The original late April finish date for the new Glenda Drive roundabout had to be pushed back to accommodate the installation of a future proofed drainage network, being funded by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.”
Mr Underwood says traffic control measures and speed limits will be in place along this stretch of highway and road users, should be prepared for temporary gravel road surfaces at times, but these won’t be in place for extended periods. Motorists and motorcyclists need take particular care, and be prepared to share the road with cyclists, who also need to negotiate these work sites.
We thank motorists in advance for their patience through until the completion of the entire project in October.
