New drone footage road construction between Johns Road and the Christchurch Northern Motorway – Western Belfast Bypass

|

The NZ Transport Agency is making good progress with the $122 million Western Belfast Bypass, started earlier this year.

People wanting to get an idea of the project’s scale can view the drone footage flyover(external link) and find out more details on the temporary access to the Groynes, the dog park and nearby businesses  in the project newsletter on line now.(external link)

The construction by contractor Fulton Hogan is part of the Transport Agency’s Western Corridor, one of the Government’s Roads of National Significance projects(external link).

The five kilometre bypass is designed to ease traffic congestion to the north of the city and divert heavy vehicles off Main North Road. It will link the Christchurch Northern Motorway to Johns Rd just south of the Groynes recreational area, supporting access to the growing north and west of the city.

Bridge embankments and ground improvements  are now well underway at the overpass locations – Groynes Drive, Dickeys Road and the new on-ramp to the Northern Motorway – easy to spot in the latest footage.

The new road is due for completion in March 2018.
