Construction work is getting underway on an off-road cycle connection between Taradale Road and Kennedy Road, adjacent to the Hawke’s Bay Expressway (State Highway 2).
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Senior Project Manager Rob Partridge says completing this cycling link will provide a safer and more connected path for cyclists from Prebensen Drive to Kennedy Road.
“When completed, this cycle path will be a valued community and recreational asset for Napier. Cyclists will be able to link into the paths across Anderson Park and loop back up Westminster Avenue, entirely off-road,” Mr Partridge says.
“This will be a great addition to Napier’s cycling network, which also includes a new cycle path on State Highway 51 which connects Clive and Napier.
“Providing safe options for cycling and walking gives people greater choice in how they get around, so we expect that we will continue to see more people choosing to walk and cycle in the region.”
The construction of the cycle path between Taradale Road and Kennedy Road is expected to take eight weeks, depending on weather.
