The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a $68 million road maintenance contract for the Hawkes Bay state highway network.
The seven year contract, effective from April 1, has been awarded to a partnership headed by Higgins Construction, which also includes professional engineering services providers Beca and GHD.
NZ Transport Agency Regional State Highways Manager Chuck Dowdell said the partnership would also engage local and regional sub-contractors, including Wairoa-based QRS, which would ensure that a healthy market is maintained in the region.
Mr Dowdell said the new seven year performance-based contract would encourage innovation throughout the contract life, with the focus being on the delivery of high quality outcomes for the network and all road users.
“Higgins have provided high-quality maintenance and project services on the Hawkes Bay state highway network for a number of years and we have been very pleased with their work to date. As a well-established, local contractor the company has a number of depots in the area and have a good working knowledge of the region.”
Mr Dowdell also thanked Downer and Opus, the current contractors, for their long-standing quality support to the region.
