Motorists urged to plan head after spill closes the Saddle Road

|

The Saddle Road between Woodville and Ashhurst is currently closed, due to a spill.

The road was closed around 2.30 this morning.

“Contractors are currently on site applying grit and sand to soak up the oil-based spill and it’s expected the road will remain closed for most of this morning,” says Waka Kotahi’s Manawatu-Whanganui Journey Manager Liesl Dawson.

Waka Kotahi is advising motorists to plan ahead and allow for an extra 30 minutes of travel time.

The suggested detour:

Eastbound traffic head south on SH57, turn left onto Pahiatua Aokautere Road. Continue on Makomako Road and turn right onto Pahiatua-Mangahao Road. Turn left back on to SH2. Reverse for westbound. Please note this detour will add at least 30 minutes to your journey time.

“We realise this will be a frustrating detour, especially at this time of morning, but we want to thank all motorists for their patience and understanding while the spill is cleaned up,” says Ms Dawson.

“We will update the information when the road is reopened.”
