Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island
- There will be five nights of planned road maintenance closures on State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill in April.
- Drivers can expect northbound lane closures and detours on State Highway 1 between Glenside and Johnsonville on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
- Cuba Dupa is underway this weekend in the Wellington CBD. Cuba Street will be closed between Ghuznee Street and SH1 Vivian Street from midnight on Friday until 3 am Monday morning.
- Resurfacing work is planned for State Highway 1 Cobham Drive and Calabar Drive in mid-April.
- Wellington Water has confirmed its traffic management plans for its Western Sewer Rehabilitation Project next month. Work is expected to take place 24/7 for two weeks from 12 April. Traffic management will be in place from Melling Link and Kennedy Good Bridge. One northbound lane will be closed and speed limits will be reduced.
- KiwiRail will also be completing infrastructure upgrades on its network in April during the school, Easter, and ANZAC holidays, which will affect passenger and public transport services. More details about this work and its impact can be found on the Metlink website:
Top of the South Island
- Road reconstruction work on State Highway 6 at Pelorus continues until mid-April.
- Bridge inspections are ongoing until the end of March across the top of the South Island, and Marlborough drivers are urged to take extra care on the region’s roads as the grape harvesting season continues.
- Resilience works continue at Higgins Bluff, near Murchison, on the Shenandoah Highway, State Highway 6 at Dellows Bluff will return two lanes at the slip site in April, and there will be a brief closure of State Highway 6 Lower Buller Gorge on Thursday.
