Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

Important information for drivers:

Lower North Island:

  • Resurfacing work will be underway north of the Waitangirua interchange on  Transmission Gully this Sunday night.

  • Street light installations will require on and off-ramp closures on both State Highway 1 and State Highway 2 during the week. They will be at the Haywards SH2/SH58 interchange on Tuesday night, between 11 pm  and 4 am, and at the SH1/Waikanae Road Te Moana interchange on Thursday night, also between 11 pm and 4 am.
  • There are events in Wellington city that may affect traffic. On Sunday, there will be the CubaDupa Pre-Party. It will see Cuba Street closed to traffic between Ghuznee and Vivian Streets from 7 am to 10 pm. Then on Wednesday afternoon and evening, there is a cricket double header at Sky Stadium with both the Black Caps and White Ferns playing international matches. Extra traffic in the area and on the urban motorway may be expected before and after the games.
  • KiwiRail will also be completing infrastructure upgrades on its network in April during the school, Easter, and ANZAC holidays, which will affect passenger and public transport services. More details about this work and its impact can be found on the Metlink website:
