Lower North Island/Upper South Island - Planned state highway roadworks

|

Important information for drivers.

Lower North Island

  • The Terrace Tunnel will be closed between 9 pm and 4:30 am on Monday night for scheduled maintenance. Drivers heading in and out of the CBD will have to use alternate routes.
  • Resurfacing work  continues on State Highway 1 between Glenside and Tawa. There will be work underway on the highway Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.
  • There will be a single-night closure of State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill this Sunday night for planned maintenance works.
  • There will be a closure affecting southbound traffic on State Highway 2 Upper Hutt, between Whakatiki Street and Silverstream on Sunday night for crash barrier repairs. The closure will be from midnight to four am (Monday morning). Local road detours will be available.
  • During the April school holidays Wellington Water will be working on a sewer main that runs under State Highway 2 in the Hutt Valley. This repair is expected to take around two weeks (24/7) to complete and will affect traffic with a lane closure on the highway expected. More information can be found on the Wellington Water website:

  • Looking ahead, line marking is planned for State Highway 6 Hope Saddle on Sunday, Sunday, 16, and Monday, 17 March, between 9 pm and 5 am (finishes 5 am, Tuesday, 18 March). Because the highway is narrow over the Hope Saddle, this work will be done under 30-minute stop/stop traffic management to ensure the safety of road crews and drivers. After each 30-minutes of line marking work, the highway will reopen to clear queued traffic. Drivers should expect 30-minute delays while this work is underway.

The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday 8 March).
