Incident closes all north-bound lanes on Southern Motorway at Ellerslie – update

|

Auckland motorists are advised that an incident has blocked all four north-bound lanes of the Southern Motorway (SH1) just north of the Ellerslie-Panmure Highway interchange.

SH1 has been closed at the interchange with all traffic being diverted off the motorway. Vehicles stopped between the interchange and the incident have been allowed through by police.

Motorists heading north on SH1 are advised to get off the motorway at or before Ellerslie or use SH20 via the Waterview tunnel to continue their journey north via the Western Ring Route. Motorists should avoid going on to the motorway or delay their journeys.

All southbound lanes are open but traffic has backed up as motorists slow to check the incident scene.

A police helicopter landed twice on the motorway but has now left the scene. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

It’s still not clear how long the motorway will remain blocked.
