Highway Speed Limits to Drop Around Coromandel Township

|

Speed limits on State Highway 25 will be officially lowered in the first week of November around Coromandel Township.

Speed limits on State Highway 25 will be officially lowered in the first week of November around Coromandel Township.

The current 80km/h speed limit on the 360 metre section of SH25 around the Tiki Road/Whangapoua Road intersection will be lowered to 50km/h, the remaining 80km/h sections of Tiki Road and Whangapoua Road will be lowered to 70km/h, and approximately 1km of the current 100 km/h speed limit on Whangapoua Road will be lowered to 70km/h.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) State Highway Manager Kaye Clark says the changes were prompted by a recent review of the speed limits and how they relate to the urban growth and subdivision development that has taken place in the Coromandel Township area, over the past few years.

Mrs Clark says, “The lowered speed limits are more appropriate for these urban environments and are consistent with the NZTA’s standard approach to setting speed limits within built up areas.”

The lower speed limits will come into effect as soon as the new speed limit signs are erected.

The NZTA will also be installing large threshold signs soon on both sides of the road around the Tiki Road/Whangapoua Road intersection to remind motorists of the new 50km/h speed limit.
