Heavy rain warning and watch in place Taranaki and Horowhenua– be careful on the roads

|

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is urging drivers around Taranaki to be extra cautious on the roads over the next two days with a heavy rain warning and watch in place.

Metservice has issued an orange heavy rain warning around Mount Taranaki, which is likely to see between 150 and 200 mm of rain and possible thunderstorms.

That warning will be in place until 10AM tomorrow.

A heavy rain watch is also in place for the rest of Taranaki until midday tomorrow.

A heavy rain watch is also in place until later this evening for Horowhenua.

Crews will be closely monitoring the state highways while these warnings are in place.

Taranaki and Manawatu-Whanganui Journey Manager Mike Dickson is advising all road users to take care.

“It’s really important to drive to the conditions, adjust your speed and following distance when you need to and be alert for the possibility of surface flooding or debris on roads.”

Please also expect short-notice closures should conditions worsen and keep an eye on the NZTA Journey Planner for any changes.
