The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says a $1.1M rock stabilisation job that started on the Nevis Bluff on State Highway 6 about midway between Cromwell and Queenstown in March, should be finished in about two weeks.
The work is part of NZTA’s on-going Nevis Bluff management programme to improve road user safety at this site.
NZTA Central Otago Area Manager, John Jarvis says we plan to have the job wrapped up by Friday 14 June about two weeks later than planned, which happens from time-to-time on challenging rock stabilisation jobs such as this one. The extra time was needed due to difficulties around drilling the rock bolts in an area 160 metres above the highway and recent bad weather.
“In the final few days of this project, the contractor will move their equipment off the site and carry out general tidying up work including some final rock scaling work. This can all be done with no more than 10 minute delays for road users.”
There will be no work on site on Queens Birthday Monday which is a public holiday.
Mr Jarvis says regular helicopter inspections and possible future works will continue as part of the NZTA’s management plan to ensure road user safety on State highway 6 at the Nevis Bluff.
