Emergency works on State Highway 35 dropout

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that emergency works will begin tomorrow, Thursday 12 September, to repair a dropout at Turihaua on State Highway 35.

Erosion of the site, around 15 kilometres north of Gisborne, has been ongoing and was exacerbated by the high swells over the weekend.

Emergency works will involve contractors based on the beach, building a rock revetment wall to repair the site.

The works are expected to take two weeks to complete.

A 30 kilometre per hour speed restriction will be in place during the works, with the possibility of single lane closures at times.
