Coromandel roads reopened following weather closures

The New Zealand Transport Agency wishes to advise all Coromandel Peninsula roads closed by heavy rain and strong winds this morning have since re-opened.

Director Regional Relationships Ross I’Anson says while all roads are now passable, there is still surface flooding, debris and slips in places.

“Further rainfall is forecast for the Coromandel Peninsula, which could see additional road closures or other driving hazards.

“Avoid unnecessary travel where possible, stay alert for hazards and slow down.”

Work on the Kuaotunu Bridge, which has been closed for repairs, has been halted due to the weather. The Transport Agency expects to provide an update to the community later today.

Mr I’Anson encouraged motorists to visit the Transport Agency’s Journey Planner(external link) for up-to-date information about road closures, hazards or disruptions on their intended route before heading out.

“Our contractors have done a great job reopening the roads and will continue to work to clear remaining hazards. Please be patient and drive carefully through any work sites.”

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
