Completion of road surface improvements on SH1 Crawford St Dunedin

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says motorists are now enjoying a smoother ride on the northbound section of State Highway 1 (SH1) on Crawford Street in Dunedin.

The resurfacing of this section of highway which started on 31 October was largely finished today, the scheduled completion date.

Otago/Southland Highways Operations Manager Roger Bailey says despite spells of less than favourable weather, the contractor has done exceptionally well to get the job done on time. There has been a lot of positive feedback about the work and the lack of disruptions while it was carried out.

Roger Bailey said the project costing around $330,000 involved asphalting both of the traffic lanes and the cycle lane along the one kilometre section of SH1 between Gordon St Street and Rattray Street. Work starts on Sunday (13 November 2011) on resurfacing the Anderson Bay Road /SH1 intersection and is expected to take 3-4 days to complete.
