Completion of major rock stabilisation works at Nevis Bluff

|

A $1.2M major rock stabilisation project that got under way in March to provide greater protection for road users from rock falls at the Nevis Bluff on State Highway 6 is now finished.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Central Otago Area Manager, John Jarvis, says our contractors moved off the site last week, bringing what has been a challenging project to a successful conclusion. While there were a few obstacles along the way, mainly weather related, overall the job has gone reasonably well.

Regular monitoring including helicopter inspections along with possible future works are all integral parts of the NZTA’s Management Strategy for the Nevis Bluff that focuses on making the road as safe as possible for motorists.

Mr Jarvis said we would like to thank road users for their patience during the almost 4 months of stabilisation works, especially during the early stages of the programme when blasting operations caused frequent delays.
