Christchurch highways open, but caution urged

|

The NZ Transport Agency reports that all state highways in Christchurch are now open, with the Anzac Bridge on SH 74 cleared for traffic earlier this evening.

NZTA's Canterbury State Highways Operations Manager Pete Connors says while there has been renewed flooding and cracking along SH74 around Dyers Road and Palinurus Road, the highway is passable and contractors will be on hand through the night to monitor damage from any further aftershocks.

Mr Connors said city streets in Christchurch have again been damaged by liquefaction, and he urged drivers to limit travel to essential trips in order to keep roads clear for emergency services.

All drivers are advised to use extra caution on the region's roads while potential damage to roads and infrastructure is assessed.
